Ignore this post if you want. Laughing

Was in the car. Listening to Mike of course. This week it's been The Jacksons album on rotation.

Stuck in traffic. Eff it. Pull out the CDs and decide on Invincible. Haven't heard it in a good long time.

Dudes...Invincible is so good. LOL! I mean, it's never been my favorite out of the MJ bunch. But I was amazed at how great everything sounded! And just thinking about the fact that I was 13 when the damn thing came out. 13! I highly doubt I could've appreciated this album at 13. There was a bit of nostalgia. I remember demanding my mom to go buy it for me cause I'd be in school. I had specific orders too - I only wanted the blue cover. LOL! She had it in the car when she picked me up - talk about excited.

Anyways, you guys don't have to respond to this. I just needed somewhere to get it out. Pretty random stuff.

Dude totally agree, Invincible is AMAZING! And I think it's getting better with age. The whole album was way ahead of it's time that music now is only just catching up to some of the sounds Michael invented for it! I mean listen to Heartbreaker....you could release that now and it would probably go right to the top of the charts. It's so fresh even ten years later!

And let's not even get started on the pure sex that is Break of Dawn....

Guys, dont shoot me...But I dont really like Invincible. I like a few of the songs on there, but it's just not classic Michael for me. I appreciate the artistry of the album, and a lot of the music on there is good and inventive...

But I just cant get into it like I have all his other albums.

No, dude. That's totally fine! I'm sure we all have our favorites and least favorites. Invincible is actually my least favorite out of his entire catalogue. I'm more of a fan of classic Michael too! I've just been listening to the album again and getting blown away over some of the things I never really paid close attention to before. Break of Dawn & Butterflies. I love you Some of the uptempo songs are fire! Heartbreaker is so...ahead! Sometimes I forget the album was made in 2001.

I do think the album is way too long though. After like, Speechless, I usually just skip most of the rest. Nice songs, just...not that overwhelming. And some of the songs sound the same. Ya know, they kind of blend together. But what I do know is that much of the criticism it got back in '01 seemed to be terribly overdone. They made it seem like the whole album was horrible. Totally not true, it has some great gems on it. I like it so much better now than I used to!

Didn't Michael want to take Invincible in a whole other direction originally? I really wish he would have been able to record one more album. No

(One other problem with Vince, I tend to attach all the hoopla around it to the actual album itself. What Michael and Sony were going through and just all the craziness. I think now that there's been some distance, I can enjoy much of it better than I did before.)

Haha, I was worried about being chased with pitchforks!

I just dont think it's his best work. When you compare it to the stuff beforehand, going back years, I just dont think it's up there.

I really like Threatened, which is without a doubt my fave song on the whole thing. I also love Heartbreaker, Unbreakable, and 2000 Watts. I'm a little bit 'meh' on a lot of the other songs. I dunno, maybe if I listened to it more, I would find more that I like but....

I definitely think the criticism was blown out of proportion. Didnt it sell, like, 10 million copies? For most other artists, that's a pretty big deal. But of course, since it was MJ, who's numbers tend to run into the ridiculously high, everyone considered it a flop so I feel bad for him there. It's a shame that he set the bar so high for himself in some ways!

Man, since you started this thread Dana I've been playing Invincible on my ipod during my bus trips, and I've fallen in love with it all over again haha!

I do have to admit....I don't like a large portion of the album. But I can appreciate the masterfulness behind it for sure. The songs I gravitate towards more are Butterflies, Break Of Dawn and 2,000 Watts.

Anyway this was a pointless post, sorry haha!
